Crete is located in the southern part of the Aegean sea and it is the largest greek island. The history of Crete extends deep into the times, even before the famous minoan era.

Cretan culture is well-known all over the world, because of its authenticity and its resistance to time. Many people claim that one can experience the cretan traditional culture through the dances, the songs, and the traditional alcoholic drink, named raki. Another significant characterisist is the type of the improvised rhyming couplet in Cretan dialect, known as mantinades.

The numerous cretan dances are characterized by special movement patterns, which in turn highlight the dancing expression of the male and the female identity in the context of this great island.
